SHCHUKIN GALLERY ONE OF THE MAJOR SPONSORS OF THE 12TH ANNUAL RUSSIAN HERITAGE MONTH®
The Shchukin Gallery was one of the major sponsors of the 12th Annual Russian Heritage Month®. The festival was produced by the Russian American Foundation™ in cooperation with the New York Post, which took place in New York City on June 1-30. The month-long celebration consisted of a variety of events that celebrated and honor the rich diversity of cultural traditions brought to this country from various regions of the former Soviet Union. The events promoted cross-community awareness as well as a valuable dialogue between people and cultures. The month culminates with the Annual Community Festival, Together In New York®, which took place in Brooklyn, NY. At the event, we were lucky to witness and honor some wonderful talent such as:
David Hallberg, the first American Premiere Dancer with Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet, and a role model for a positive dialogue between the cultures and individuals of the United States and Russia.
We were also able to enjoy such musical talent from the concerts held this June as:
• Philippe Quint & Friends – the award-winning Russian-American violinist performed with outstanding musicians such as Joshua Bell, J. Ralph, Emily Bergl, Michael Bacon, William Wolfram, the Matt Herskowitz Trio, and the Quint Quintet featuring celebrated Argentine performers JP Jofre, Octavio Brunetti, Oren Fader, and Pedro Giraudo. Magic Songs of the Eternal Steppe - The concert featured the Kazakh National Academic Kurmangazy Orchestra of Folk Instruments, the Kazakh National Baikadamov Choir, and renowned Kazakh vocalists.
From the artistic world we were given a chance to see:
• “From Primitivism To Propaganda: Russia’s Modern Masters” at the Shchukin Gallery presented from its private collection organized by Mathew Drutt.
• Aladdin Garunov and his selected work also presented by the Shchukin Gallery
• “Sergei Parajanov: The Creator” - The first retrospective exhibit in the U.S. of Sergei Parajanov celebrated the magic world created by one of the most brilliant and controversial creators of the 20th century at the Gilbert Albert Gallery. The event commemorated the 90th anniversary of the birth of the artist.
